Weekend in Wauwinet

Last weekend I was on Nantucket visiting friends in Wauwinet. Their house is on the ocean and right across the lane from the WAUWINET INN which overlooks the bay. On Saturday night we could hear the music and merriment of a wedding.

The Stone House Resort

THE STONE HOUSE set on the coast of Rhode Island is on my "must" list. The main house dates back to 1854 and has two-foot thick walls to stand up against the elements. This would also be a stunning location for a wedding.

The setting is stunning with rolling lawns down to the beach. And going to sleep to the sound of the waves. 

The rooms are contemporary despite the historic setting. 

The food is supposed to be some of the best in RI and you can dine with a view. Sign me up!

If that wasn't enough to tempt you, they also have a spa with a drool-worthy menu of services.

Thursday Obsession: Woodstock Inn

I am counting the days until I pack my bags and head north (and west) to the WOODSTOCK INN in Vermont with one of my favorite friends for a spa weekend. Is there anything better?

I have stayed here many times (love it!), but not since they completed a major remodel and the addition of a new spa.

The rooms are beautiful and so cozy you won't want to explore the restaurants, the grounds or the charming town of Woodstock just a few blocks from the inn.

The food is delicious and they have a few restaurants on the property. 

If you want to be more active, the Inn can make arrangements for you to fly fish

Ride

Or play golf or tennis on their course or courts

This is the perfect spot for a weekend escape, a special occasion or even a wedding. So make a reservation!

Jane Eyre on Location

I went to see JANE EYRE yesterday and it is well worth seeing! Jane, played by MIA WASIKOWSKA, is really endearing and while hardly beautiful, her character grows on you. Mr. Rochester is played brilliantly by MICHAEL FASSBENDER. I did laugh as I overheard a group of young women leaving the theater and discussing if there was going to be a sequel. Really??

But the real star of the movie was the location. It gave you a sense of what it was like to live during that time period - dark, chilly and creepy, even if you are surrounded by antiques! 

After some Googling I discovered much of the movie was filmed at CHATSWORTH. Not only is it open for daily visits, you can also host events here, including weddings. Now they had my attention! Talk about a venue!

 There is also a restaurant on the property, cottages for rent and a farm shop.

The other location (especially for the exterior shots of Thornfield) was HADDON HALL. It is also open to the public and has a restaurant. What fun!

Time to plan a trip across the pond!
