Local Scoop: Philadelphia

Philadelphia (aka the City of Brotherly Love) is where I was born and lived my first few years. As a result, it holds a special place in my heart.  I turned to two fabulous young women who call Philadelphia home to give us the "local scoop".  They had so much good scoop, I have broken it up in to two parts. (Part II is next Friday.)

Katie is in her third year of medical school at UPenn. When she isn't working 18 hour days, she makes a point of hitting the town. Katie always knows the best spots and was kind enough to share her "scoop".

Best Spot for Cocktails:
PARC in Rittenhouse Square and is designed like a Parisian Brasserie. Try the Basil Mojito.

Best Food (On Expense Account):
For the best meat in the city (and excellent service) head to BARCLAY PRIME.

Best Food (On a Budget):
MEME serves the best mussels in the city and since it is BYOB, it is one of the best bargains!

Favorite Lunch Spot:
GARCES TRADING COMPANY is a food and wine store combined with a restaurant. You won't mind waiting for a table while you sample olives and cheese!

Best Burger:
VILLAGE WHISKEY has the best burgers in Philly and you can pick your own toppings like avocado, truffled mushrooms, horseradish crab salad and all kinds of cheese. Yum!

Favorite Place for Dessert:
With lots of great bakeries, it is a hard choice. Katie's top pick is AUDREY CLAIRE for warm bread pudding with whipped cream.
