ARETHUSA FARM is becoming all the rage. This is not your average farm with its spotless barns, which hold 375 cows and owned by George Malkemus and Anthony Yurgaitis, president and vice president of Manolo Blahnik. Yup! You read that right...this is a farm built by Manolo Blahnik and their shoe fortune.
Their slogan is “Milk like it used to taste,” because Arethusa’s milk reminded Mr. Malkemus of the milk he grew up on in Texas. The products are a result of the best in technology and old-fashioned TLC, starting with the cows. The milk comes from cows that are pasture-fed in good weather; at other times they receive Canadian hay and mixtures of grains. Then there’s the TLC: daily tail-washing, conditioning with Pantene Pro-V (seriously) and brushing, plus a weekly full body wash. Pampered? No one at Arethusa thinks so. It keeps parasite levels low and the cows healthy and improves milk quality. I think Carrie Bradshaw would approve, especially of the barn's motto which is pictured below.
Looks for their line of milk, cheeses and ice cream at Stop and Shop, Whole Foods or their retail store at 822 Bantam Road in Bantam, CT.

Looks like a gorgeous farm in a fantastic setting!! xo
ReplyDeleteLOVE the barns motto and think this is great, I would imagine the barn and the style with how the cattle are kept to be nothing short of stylishly wonderful given the proprietors of this beautiful operation!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful!!! Lucky cows! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHow fun and what a great story! I resist eating meat because of the way cows are treated and will certainly look for this milk... Had to shelve my Manolos after the snow we had this week!

I have heard of this but haven't seen the products - will have to look for it on my next trip to Stop & Shop or Whole Foods - we have both!!
ReplyDeleteThis is something to celebrate for sure. A happy cow is something that pays it forward.
ReplyDeleteI'm blown away. Love this story. Love the motto. Love their shoes, their barn and their cows! Now, I need to try the milk. Thanks for the lesson.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of them but would love to go there in person. What a wonderful way to embrace the things they love!!!

I passed this barn when I visited my sister in Litchfield last summer, but I did not know the back story. Now I know why the barn looked so upscale. I will have to tell my sister to look for their products.
